Holiday Cottage to let in Padstow, North Cornwall

Padstow

Padstow is known as the 'foodie capital' of Cornwall, home to a host of Rick Stein’s renowned fish restaurants, this seaside town hosts plenty of cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants where you can dine out on fresh seafood, local produce and taste unique, crafted meals.

The town hosts a whole load of activities, here are a few favourites:

- Camel Trail: this cycle trail runs from Padstow to Wenford Bridge, via Wadebridge and Bodmin. The trail passes through the wooded countryside of the upper Camel Valley and alongside the picturesque Camel Estuary

 - Boat trips: speed boats or fishing boats leave regularly from the harbour, so whether you want to sight see or catch some dinner, there is something for everyone.

- Greens of Padstow: crazy golf with a cafe overlooking the harbour.

- Rock: board one of the regular ferries that runs from Padstow-Rock to spend the day exploring more beaches and eating delicious food (we recommend the Blue Tomato).

- Shopping: Padstow has a host of cobbled street with both well known and independent retailers.

- Padstow Brewing Company: is an award winning micro-brewery with the main site just outside Padstow featuring a shop and brewery tours. In the heart of Padstow they have a small shop/bar where you can get a trio of taster beers as a pit stop between shops.

- Camel Valley Vineyard: get there from the Camel Valley trail or by car, this vineyard offers tours and a lovely outdoor area where you can taste all their lovely wines.

To the north of the town and accessible by the coast path is a super stretch of sand from St Georges Cove to Harbour Cove and Hawkers Cove. The walk from Padstow to St Georges Cove takes about 20 minutes with great views across the estuary.

Although Padstow is our nearest town, Resoghen is in a great location to visit other areas such as Newquay, Port Isaac, Bude, Polzeath, Truro, St Agnes - the list goes on! If you choose to stay with us we'd be happy to provide information on how to best to travel and our recommended places to visit!

Beaches

Famous for it's beaches, North Cornwall will not disappoint. Resoghen is ideally placed walking distance from a whole host of lovely beaches.

Resoghen's closest beach is a swift 3 minute walk away - Harlyn Bay is a crescent shaped bay of sand, noted as a safe beach popular with families and surfers. Lifeguards patrol this beach from May - September. This is an excellent beach for many seaside activities such as surfing, swimming and sunbathing, with some fine walks along the headlands in either direction. Walkers can take the coastal path to Mother Ivey’s Bay and Trevose Head from Harlyn bay. Harlyn Surf School is based on the beach offering surf lessons, SUP and kayaking tours.

Mother Ivey's Bay is the next bay across along the coastal path (west) and is a personal favourite in our family. Cushioned by the wind, it has a sheltered location framed by stunning coastal scenery. Due to the lack of facilities here it rarely gets too crowded even on busy days.

Booby's Bay is next - popular with surfers and rock pool enthusiasts and at low tide connected to Constantine bay, a wide sandy beach with a surf shop and a deli nearby for the emergency ice cream or beer trips.

Treyarnon bay is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with lots of rock pools to explore and sheltered small coves ideal for su bathing. There is a renowned 'natural' swimming pool at the bottom of the low cliffs near the Youth Hostel (whose hot chocolate is divine!) which can be accessed at low tide.

If you're happy to drive for a beach day, why not try Watergate bay or Mawgan Porth? Both slightly further down the coast, Watergate Bay in particular is popular with surfers, where there are a host of rental surf shops and lots of delicious restaurants to enjoy. Watergate bay is a 20 minute drive coastal from Harlyn, but has plenty of parking.

Further information on local amenities, beaches and activities is provided in Resoghen, along with a whole host of games to keep you occupied on the rainy days (although we hope you don't have any!)

Travel

Resoghen is situated a 20 minute drive from Newquay Airport which runs international and domestic flights regularly. We're also 30 minute drive from Bodmin parkway if you or family are visiting Cornwall by train. Mother Ivey's corner, Harlyn is our local bus stop where the number 56 passes through. Resoghen has 2 large parking spaces that can be used during your stay, and we can provide reliable local taxi contact numbers as well if needed!

Eating & Drinking

Here is a small selection of wonderful establishments local to Resoghen, although there are many more that you can explore during your stay:

- The Pig at Harlyn Bay: with an obsessive commitment to home grown produce and a serious love of all-things local, this place is a real winner. There is a stunning restaurant or the outdoor terrace - 'The Lobster Shed', all just a 5 minute walk from the cottage.

- The Cornish arms: 15/20 minute walk away in St Merryn is this traditional pub run by Rick Steins, serving simple British food. In spring and summer enjoy the large beer garden, or during the colder months cosy up by our log fires with friends and family for some real comfort food.

- Raffety's food and wine bar: also in St Merryn and serves delicious food and drinks all year round.

- Barnaby's and Prawn on the lawn: two small and cosy restaurants in Padstow serving small plates and fresh seafood. Recommend booking in advance for these, but it's worth it!

- Caffe Rojano by Paul Ainsworth: fabulous italian food and a lovely conservatory, situated in Padstow.

 Drinks:

- Ruby's Gin bar, Padstow

- Any of the pubs, too many to list here!
